On Saturday, October 12th the Belle Plaine High School Marching Band competed in 2 area contests. The first was the State Marching Band Competition held in Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids. At this contest, bands competed for a division rating. Belle Plaine received a Division 2 rating.
The second competition was the Wilton Festival of Bands. This was a contest designed specifically for 1A and 2A schools. At this festival bands competed against each other for placement. Winners were announced from each class as well as the overall placement among all schools (regardless of class). At this contest, Belle Plaine placed 2nd in class 1A and tied for 5th in the overall competition. Special Awards are also given out at this festival. Belle Plaine received awards for Outstanding Drum Line and Outstanding Marching Execution. Belle Plaine also received an award for Outstanding Drum Major (Rachel Blink).
The point totals from the two competitions were consistent. Belle Plaine scores improved slightly from State (60.3) to Wilton (64.0).
Congrats to Band Director Heath Long and the entire marching band for representing Belle Plaine so well and showing that it's quality not quantity that matters.
